Mission Statement
Academy Tutors prepares students for college by supporting the full process, not just one class, test, or application. Through personalized, one-to-one tutoring, we help students master challenging coursework, prepare for standardized tests, make informed college decisions, and write strong admissions and scholarship essays. Our goal is not simply to help students get into college, but to give them the skills, confidence, and independence to succeed once they get there.
Our History
Our History
Academy Tutors was founded in 2014, shortly after our family moved from San Francisco to Nevada. We quickly discovered that many local students and families were receiving far less guidance about college preparation than we had seen in California. Students often did not know when to take entrance exams, which colleges were realistic options, how to strengthen an application, or how to write an effective admissions essay.
Our original plan was to recreate the academic tutoring model that had worked well for us in California. But it soon became clear that strong tutoring alone was not enough. Many parents knew their children needed help but had never been given a clear picture of what college readiness involved or how the different pieces—coursework, testing, applications, and financial aid—fit together.
As a result, our work expanded from test preparation into a more comprehensive approach to college readiness allowing us to serve a broader range of students. We have helped candidates for the United States service academies dramatically improve the test scores that stood between them and an appointment. We have supported students arriving from stronger school systems in states such as Texas and Illinois as they adjusted to Nevada schools while staying on track for their preferred colleges. We have also partnered with local charities and charter schools to provide ACT boot camps and other academic programs for students who might not otherwise have access to private tutoring.
Academy Tutors has grown from the work of an experienced academic tutor with college admissions expertise into a company committed to improving educational outcomes throughout our community. Our focus remains personal and practical: helping students understand what is expected, build the skills they need, and move confidently toward college and beyond.
